Roulette offers thousands of possible betting combinations one can make. Whether you are a seasoned gambler or a curious beginner, understanding the rules of the roulette table is crucial.
Although it is defined as a game of chance, many professional players and enthusiasts believe that certain strategies and knowledge about the game could help players increase their chances of winning. Let’s take a deep dive into the rules one needs to know about roulette, including bet types, payouts, and overall gameplay.
A standard roulette table consists of a spinning wheel and a betting layout. The wheel is divided into a number of pockets, alternating in colour between red and black.
The roulette wheel is divided into 38 spaces. Numbers 1 through 36 are coloured red or black. The 0 and 00 are green. Play begins when the players place their bets on the numbered layout. The dealer spins the ball in the opposite direction that the wheel is spinning. A few revolutions before the ball drops, the dealer will announce, “No more bets.” The dealer will mark the number on which the ball has landed and pay all winning bets accordingly.
The game begins when the dealer says “Place your bets”. All the players must then proceed to place the bets; all wagers at roulette shall be made by placing them on the roulette layout.
The permissible wagers in the game of roulette are:
“Straight” is a bet that the roulette ball will land in the compartment of the wheel. The player shall select a number by placing a wager within the box on the roulette layout that contains the selected number.
A “split” bet is a wager that the roulette ball will land in a compartment of the wheel that corresponds to either of two numbers chosen by the player. The player shall select the numbers by placing a wager on the line between the two boxes on the roulette layout that contain the two selected numbers, except that a split wager on “0” and “00” may also be placed on the line between the “2nd 12” box and the “3rd 12” box.
These bets are placed on specific numbers or combinations within the table layout. A player can bet on single numbers, rows of numbers, or adjacent numbers. A player may also play odd or even numbers or colours, among others.
Column” is a wager that the roulette ball will come to rest in a compartment of the roulette wheel that corresponds to any one of the 12 numbers contained in a single column on the roulette layout selected by the player. The player shall select a column of 12 numbers by placing a wager in the box on the roulette layout that is at the bottom of the column being selected
In a colour bet, players can bet on the ball to land on a red or black pocket. “Red” is a wager that the roulette ball will come to rest in any compartment of the roulette wheel that corresponds to a number with a red background on the roulette wheel. The player shall bet on “red” by placing a wager within the red box on the roulette layout used for such wagers.
“Black” is a wager that the roulette ball will come to rest in any compartment of the roulette wheel that corresponds to a number with a black background on the roulette
wheel. The player shall bet on “black” by placing a wager within the black box on the
roulette layout used for such wagers.
